April Member Spotlight: Colin Bauer, EMT

Q. How long have you been in EMS? What is your current position at Marple EMS?
I’ve been involved in EMS as a EMT for just about 3 years now, I just finished up my first recertification. I’m currently a staff EMT for Marple EMS.

Q. What made you become a part of EMS?
I lost my mother to sudden cardiac arrest in my home in 2008, I was only 12 at the time but it had a profound effect on me. Several years after that experience when I was working my way through highschool I told my father I wanted to peruse a career in EMS, and when the right time came I did.

Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job/position?
The extremely rare moments when you and your partner actually make a difference in a patients/patient’s family’s life. Those brief and fleeting moments are truly the most rewarding.

Q. What are your hobbies outside of work?
Photography, Video Games, traveling, and school take up most of my time away from work.

Q. What is an interesting fact about you that no one may know?
I was born exactly 50 years, 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 6 seconds after the first nuclear weapon was deployed and exploded.

Q.What did you want to do while growing up?
When I was very young I wanted to be a lawyer, but throughout high school I knew that I wanted to peruse pre-hospital medicine.

Q. Tell me about your life…
Currently my life is consumed almost entirely by paramedic school, hopefully if everything goes to plan I will be done by May and continue my work with Marple EMS as a staff Paramedic. When I’m not at work, school, or running between the two my life consists of wonderful time with friends, family, and my significant other. All in all, I have little to complain about.
