On October 23, 2002, The Mercy Health Systems (MHS) terminated paramedic services in Haverford, Marple and Newtown Townships. This came not one year after Mercy Community Hospital closed its doors. Marple Township Ambulance would like to express it sincere appreciation to Mr. Larry Gentile and all the Paramedic and EMT staff for the dedicated service to Marple Township and its residents. On October 23, 2002, Marple Township Ambulance Corps put Medic 53 in service at 0700 hours. This was a huge project that was put together by some very dedicated volunteers from MTAC along with Career Staff Supervisor Jon Barry. To this day, the project has been a huge success. Haverford Township is now being covered by it’s own Paramedics (Medic 108) and Newtown Township contracted Riddle Memorial Hospital (Medic 104B) to provide Paramedic service. .
