Feb 20th - 1830hrs - Extra Detail (Rap Concert)
Marple Sports Arena, 611 Parkway Dr.
Marple EMS was notified of a Rap Concert that would bring known rap star Mac Miller to Marple Township. Crews were assembled and under the direction of Chief Bill Downey, an ALS crew (Paramedic Jaci Aretz and EMT Brian Maguire) and a BLS crew (EMT Mark Smith and EMT Andrew Chinofsky) was staged inside the arena. With Assistant Chief Heather Robinson outside with transport ALS crew (Paramedic John Grimmie, Ben Verna and First Responder Sam Horn) and BLS Crew (EMT Laura Hurd, EMT Kriss Salinsky and Trainee Pete Nguyen) stood by in case of emergencies. Before the event started, about 1400 spectators lined up. Within a 30 minute time frame, the outside crews treated and transported 2 alcohol overdoses in the parking lot. The rest of the concert was an uneventful evening. Special thanks to Manoa Fire Co ambulance and Haverford Township Medics responding in for coverage while Marple EMS handled the 3 patients.
Feb 10th - 1800hrs - Working Fire @ 251 N. Sproul Road
Marple EMS along with Broomall Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire. Upon arrival, Chief Bill Downey and EMT Ethan Toy found an active house fire with flames shooting from a second floor window. Chief Downey assumed EMS Command while Paramedic Matt Bargerstock, EMT's Toy, Cham Sante, Mark Smith, Rose Horn and First Responder Sam Horn under the direction of Assistant Chief Heather Robinson started the Rehab sector. No injuries were reported and crew remained on location for several hours.
Feb 9th - 1641hrs - Motor Vehicle Accident @ Lawrence & Parkway
Marple EMS was dispatched to an accident with entrapment. Upon arrival, Career Supervisor Sean Johnston reported two injuries with one being trapped in the vehicle. Paramedic Johnston assumed EMS Command. Paramedic Craig Hall and EMT Cham Sante treated the trapped driver. Their patient was transported to Russell Elementery School where medical helicopter PennStar was standing by to complete the transport to a trauma center. Paramedic Johnston and EMT Brian Maguire treated and transported the second patient to a local hospital.
Rita’s Water Ice of Broomall with the combined efforts of the staff and volunteers of Marple Township EMS and Broomall Fire Company will be working to raise money for the Township’s Emergency Services. This extra money will aid the companies in continuing to serve the community of Marple Township. Please come out and support your community volunteers!!
